From 1994: "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country."
From 2002: "I'm not going to change our pro-choice laws in Massachusetts."
"I don't accept either label--pro-life or pro-choice."
"I do not take the position of a pro-life candidate."
"I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose."

From 2007:
Voter Question : On abortion, I was just wondering, are you in favor of just the repeal of Roe v. Wade, or would you like to see a Human Life Amendment? What steps are you prepared to take to support human life?
Romney's Answer : Here's my view, and that is that the Supreme Court should, over time, allow states to have more influence over their decisions on abortion. I'm not calling for a nationwide ban of abortion. What I am calling for is states to have their choice. If a state wants to be pro-choice, it can be pro-choice. If a state wants to be able to restrict certain portions of abortion it should have the right to do that or be pro-life. So let the decision be made by the state, not a one-size-fits-all decision by the federal government.
Romney: "My view is that the Supreme Court has made an error in saying, at the national level, one-size-fits-all for the whole nation. And instead I would let the states make their choices.
Interviewer: "So it's OK that we're a pro-choice state? "
Romney: "I'd let states make their own decision in this regard...I would let states have this choice rather than have the federal government have it."
